[Harp-L] Re: Helge Tallqvist

First - THANK YOU to  whoever it was that posted the link to Tallqvist's 
website.   
Funny how personal  taste is.....  
For my 2 cents, the  cuts I was able to listen to from this harp player's 
site were the cuts I've  liked best that have moved me the most emotionally and 
musically in the last  month or so here at harp-L, including those posted by 
various Harp-L members.   
In part it is  *because* of the rhythm section and backing that Helge 
Tallqvist has going for  him. I would personally give a great deal to play in front 
of that band. The  drums and bass are deep in the pocket, the guitar is 
perfect. The vocalist tries  hard (I tried to imagine myself singing Telephone Blues 
in Finnish), Iâll leave  it at that.  
This kind of George  Smith (Bill Clarke) West Coast Blues Sound is not really 
'jump/swing' in  the sense of Jordan or Prima, its more greasy than that - 
more textured with  fullness of tone and reliance on texture and flow than on 
horn (sax Jordan,  trumpet Prima) stabs. It is more swing/groove and less  jump. 
The most recent Helge  Tallqvist recording has a nice open analogue big room 
tone and the backing is  spot on for the type of feel being conveyed.  I loved 
it and will buy  it. 
Guess Iâm more of a  heart listener than a head listener. 
Funny how personal  taste can beâ. 
And Bill Clarke? One  of the top all time blues harmonica players and a GREAT 
singer as well. He  was out of this world live, still is outstanding on 
record (CD).
